FFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHH is what today’s reading was about. Just in case you missed that. Today however we’re talking specifically about Jesus’ zombification. Apparently “the key to grasping this reality is, of course, faith“.
That’s an interesting sentence isn’t it. The important words are ‘reality’ and ‘faith’. Let’s define reality, with the help of the OED:
The state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them.
And now faith:
Complete trust or confidence.
From which I think we need to define trust:
Acceptance of the truth of a statement without evidence or investigation.
So, exactly how is it possible to grasp something as it actually exists – as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of its existence – without investigating and obtaining evidence of the truth of its existence?
Having faith in reality is like closing your eyes to watch a sunrise. It’s real. It is its own evidence. You don’t need to trust that it exists. It’s right there. Open your eyes and you’ll see it in all its glory. If Christians opened their eyes they’d see that while the sun rises everyday, The Son never did. In fact, they’d see that he wasn’t even The Son, but merely a son. So they keep their eyes closed.
Reality isn’t something you need to have faith in. Faith is what you have when you are ignorant of or can’t face up to reality.
