I know I ask this question fairly regularly, but, what exactly was all this about? He likes war films. But he’d never want to actually go to war because it’s so horrific. But what’s good about war is that people get to die in the name of being BFFs. Until they die. So less BFF and more ‘BFFFFFUUUUUCK I’M DYING!’ Yes. War is all so heart warming.
And God is sat on the fence with war, is he? He just can’t decide. All out genocide? A modest massacre? A ‘just’ war? A jolly good crusade or two, or three, or more? Oh, to smite or not to smite? What a dilemma! Let’s just err on the side of invading Iraq! Why ever not? God will be our judge and he just loves a good old war. While we’re at it, we’ll print some Pashto Bibles and try to convert the locals! Let’s hunt people for Jesus!
But despite all that, Reverend Edwards just doesn’t know what he thinks about war, because he just doesn’t know what God thinks about war. However, from all films and TV shows he’s watched, he thinks war is all about friends. I assume he saw David Schwimmer in Band of Brothers and got a bit confused. But whatever. He now knows that the supreme mark of friendship is watching your closest friends die gruesome, horrific deaths in front of your very eyes. Afterall, aren’t wars just the perfect Hallmark occasion?
