Kaká. Again. Last time it was Lord Harries telling us how happy he was that Kaká didn’t take the £500k per week offered by Manchester City because he “preferred to stay in a place where he knows his family is happy, and where he is loved by his team-mates and the fans”. But he’s changed his mind now because, after all, it’s Madrid, not Manchester.
I don’t think the weekly wage Kaká was offered by Real Madrid has been released to the press. But for all Harries’ praise for his not taking the money in January, Kaká was still reported in February to be the highest paid footballer in the world (alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whoever that is). He was earning about £160,000 per week, around £8,320,000 per year. We can safely assume that Real Madrid have topped that offer somewhat. And from looking at the numbers, I think it’s probably reasonable to call bullshit on 500k number reported to be on the table in Manchester City’s attempts to purchase the ‘Athlete for Christ‘. It was first reported by the Daily Mail after all, while The Sun reported a more modest £288,000. It all seems a tad too crazy to be believable (though that doesn’t generally stop people, as we know).
Though he gets paid over £8 million a year for kicking a ball around, Wilkinson wants us to know that he deserves it because he’s a Christian. And a UN Ambassador Against Hunger. Like Drew Barrymore. He also says that Kaká ‘resists the excesses often associated with football’s lifestyle’. So we should all rest assured that although he gets paid about 800 times more than people who, for example, care for the elderly, he’s an really nice chap who lends his fame to good causes and is very careful not to enjoy himself too much. Oh and, most importantly, Jesus loves him. And you know you’re special if Jesus loves you.
Really special.
