JJ really wanted to drive home the goodness of Christianity and the hope in scripture today. He failed, but he really wanted to try.
Firstly, an alternative take on American policy in Africa suggests that while Obama’s words sound great, America continues to screw Africa over in various ways. Nigeria, for instance, will soon provide the States with a quarter of all its imported oil, but oil companies have repeatedly broken their promises to the indigenous people who then face military repression when they protest the arrangement. And, yes, America provides training and arms to the militia doing the repression. It’s a familiar story.
But does the Bible offer us at least an idea of hope for the future? I can only refer you to the verse JJ referred us to:
“The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every imagination of their hearts was only evil continually. And the Lord was very sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart”.
And then refer you to the verse, noted over at Platitude for the Day, that immediately follows it:
“And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Thanks for that JJ. I’m sure they’ll find that a great comfort and inspiration in Kenya.
