Wednesday 20th May 2009: Akhandadhi Das

Listen / Read
Well, I’m glad Akhandadhi Das is glad that people are really angry about the MPs’ expenses controversy. Because I am undeniably one of them and I feel much better now I have his Hindu blessing, as offered via his bovine limb hacking analogy. I may well go and find my local MP and kick the cow in her shins for good measure.

Parliament has a long ways left to go yet before we start worrying about any impropriety amongst the general public. Given that it’s the public’s money that has been disingenuously mishandled, and that most folk don’t even have access to such things as expense claims, let’s just hope that this whole furore really does generate substantial and comprehensive reform where it matters most. Then and only then should we start worrying about financial machinations elsewhere. Starting perhaps with the BBC.

As for compassion in wider society? Well, sure. More of that would be nice. Simplicity? As if anything is simple about society. Purity? Now that’s just boring.
